Welcome to the Open Room where we will amaze you with rows of the latest PC and MAC computers, available for your use. Behind the scenes, it is our knowledgeable Facilities Committee members who keep all the equipment in both rooms up to date and running smoothly.

(Bud Brooks; Noah Rosenstein; Tony Coon; Bill Altman; Chuck Cameron; Honey Burt, chair and Mark Davis)

These volunteers spend hours fine tuning hardware; installing software and keeping a network of machines ready for you. If you think you have a problem with your one computer, imagine what it is like to have more than 30 to work on.

Our computers are the stars of the Club, so here is what is available to you…. PCs running on Windows 10 or Windows 7, Apple computers with the latest operating system, a VHS to DVD recorder, 2 flatbed scanners that can digitize slides and photos as well as copy documents, 1 color and 2 black and white laser jet printers.

In addition to conventional tower computers with monitors, there are “All-in-One” computers, a tablet with dual monitors, and compact, mini desktop computers. Most of the PCs have a read/write DVD Drive. A couple of them have dual Disk Drives.

Our computers are equipped with the latest software and programs for your use. You will find the links for Genealogy research on the PC browsers including Family Tree Maker. In addition, we have MS Office 365, MS Office 2010, Photoshop Elements, Picasa, and a Microsoft Office free alternative (Open Office) installed on the PCs. On the MAC computers, you will find Numbers, Pages, and Keynote. A chart on the bulletin board will guide you to the machine that meets your needs.

A research library with additional genealogy resources is in the bookcase and you will even find a great paper cutter in the Open Room.

The Club’s portable hardware is in a display case which houses a variety of Club owned equipment: a few tablets (iPad & Surface 3); Chromebook; card readers; floppy drives and more, all for use in the Computer Center. Come on in and try them out.

There is a lot going on in the Open Room. Please feel free to stop by and check it out AND remember to thank our Facilities Committee members when you see them. They are the glue that keeps our Computer Club up and running.
